The Phoenix Canariensis, best known as the Canary Date Palm, originates from the Canary Islands. There are many different species of the Phoenix, of which the Canariensis is the best known and most common. Phoenix Canariensis can be found in every tropical climate nowadays, but in Spain and Italy these palms are often used as plant material along public roads or are planted as ornamental plants. In a tropical climate, this palm can grow up to 18 meters high with leaves of 5 to 6 meters long. Care The Phoenix Canariensis prefers a sunny location (full sun is not a problem) and a very well-drained soil. Water every day during dry spring and/or hot, dry summers. Always keep the palm in well-drained soil and allow excess water to drain directly from the pot. It is recommended to fertilize the palm once a year with concentrated or liquid plant food. The Phoenix Canariensis is a strong rooter and can be planted in the ground or in a pot. With an ornamental pot, make sure that the plant is given sufficient space. The plant is moderately hardy and can withstand up to 5 degrees of frost. Size The plants have a height of 80-100cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plants are supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 19cm.
