NERINE bowdenii \nAlso known as The Guernsey Lily. \nMost nerines are tender greenhouse bulbs, but Nerine bowdenii is the nearest to being hardy, and well worth planting outdoors in a warm sunny border. \nIt is a breath-taking plant, especially on a dull autumn day, with its tall stems, terminated by a loose umbel of 5 to 10 trumpet-shaped, shocking-pink flowers, it must surely be one the most exotic of autumn-flowering bulbs. \nEach flower of The Guernsey Lily has six narrow perianths with flamboyant wavy edges, which in certain lights appear to have been sprinkled with gold and their faint musky scent carries on the autumn breeze. \nIt flowers outdoors from September to early November, depending on temperature and site, on stems 12-20” tall. \nNerine flowers are long-lasting in the garden and keep going when cut for indoor decoration. \nThe strap-like leaves emerge after flowering and generally survive the winter undamaged. \nFor many years it was thought that Nerine bowdenii came from Japan, but in fact they are native to the Drakensberg mountains region of South Africa. \nThe plant is named after Cornish Bowden who first brought the bulbs to Britain in 1903. \nEstablished clumps of The Guernsey Lily gradually become overcrowded and force their way to the surface, an indication that division may be needed, this can be carried out in late summer. \nRoyal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (AGM). \n All pictures used are of mature plants in full bloom and may not necessarily reflect plants at all times of the year. \nWe supply Nerine bowdenii ex. 9cm pots, they can be planted out immediately but better results may be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions \nFor tips on how to grow this plant visit Plant Reviews they has a \nPACK 1 PLANT \nIMMEDIATE \n \nOur wide and varied range of Perennials can be view here. \nPlease remember plant maintenance within our nursery is absolutely essential and means we need to prune back some items at certain times of the year to help maintain shape and encourage new growth. \nWe ask all our buyers to remember Nerine are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website.
